NM Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum showcases NM products
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Stuff your stocking with New Mexico products this holiday season from the HomeGrown: A New Mexico Food Show & Gift Market on Nov. 23 and 24 at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces. HomeGrown is an opportunity to sample and shop for New Mexico’s award-winning food products.
The tenth Annual HomeGrown event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $10 per carload, and the first 100 vehicles at the event receive a free burlap shopping bag.
Attendees can expect 60 vendors, the majority representing food and beverage companies from around the state, many of which are New Mexico Department of Agriculture’s NEW MEXICO—Taste the Tradition® / Grown with Tradition® members. Each booth will offer locally produced products, such as award-winning salsas, nuts, sauces, and wine, for attendees to sample and purchase. The show will also feature crafts, art, and other hand-made products, including Native American pottery and jewelry from northern and central New Mexico.
“New Mexico has so much to offer, from unique foods to local crafts and Native arts, and New Mexicans should share that part of New Mexico with their families and friends this holiday season,” said New Mexico Cultural Affairs Cabinet Secy. Debra Garcia y Griego, “HomeGrown: A New Mexico Food and Gift Show Market at New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces is the ideal place to sample all the memorable products our state has to offer.”
The New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA) partners with the Museum each year to co-host the event. The NMDA food demonstration trailer is featured at the event and NMDA’s Taste the Tradition Chef Ambassador Jon Young will conduct cooking demonstrations each day.
“NMDA is pleased to once again co-host HomeGrown with the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces. The event features unique New Mexico food, beverage and craft products that highlight the state’s traditions, especially during the holiday season,” said New Mexico Secretary of Agriculture Jeff Witte. “Many of the vendors at this event are members of NMDA’s New Mexico Taste the Tradition and Grown with Tradition Logo Program and this event is a perfect opportunity for those businesses to showcase their products during the biggest shopping season of the year,” said Witte. “NMDA’s goal is always to support our agribusinesses as much as possible through initiatives such as HomeGrown. One way we do this is through cooking demos where our staff and one of our chef ambassadors get to interact with the public and show them new and creative ways to incorporate products from the event into their holiday and everyday dishes at home.”
Event vendor Louis Santana of Santana’s Black Label, a Las Cruces company making gourmet jerky, said: “You get to see items that you don’t see at the store. Its hugely different than what you would see at any other market.”
Visitors are also invited to tour the Museum and enjoy the exhibits at no extra cost. The Museum is located at 4100 Dripping Springs Road in Las Cruces and is a division of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs. The 47-acre facility tells the story of 4,000 years of growing food in New Mexico through a variety of exhibits and demonstrations.
